One of the most common questions I get when people discover that I am a hypnotist is, “Are you going to make me quack like a duck?” My response is always the same: “Only if you want me to.” Here are other frequently asked questions:
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is the process of relaxing the mind and body into a receptive state, where we can affect positive change within the subconscious mind. The conscious mind is still very much in play. As a matter of fact, it is the logical, intellectual, part of conscious thinking that supports acceptance of the positive suggestions given while in trance and reinforces them.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Everyone experiences hypnosis differently. Some people get the commonly thought of “rag doll”, heavy feeling, while others simply feel like they are resting with their eyes closed. Some subjects become very animated and talkative while in state.
Is stage hypnosis real?
Yes, though it is different from hypnotherapy. Stage hypnosis is for entertainment purposes, and the subjects are willingly playing along as far as their conscious minds allow them to. There are also other factors involved, psychological ones, such as the compliance principle. Individuals are more likely to comply with the silly suggestions because they are in a group.
How does hypnotherapy work?
Neuroplasticity has been a welcome friend in explaining hypnotherapy. We now know that the brain can physically re-wire itself. Old behaviors and patterns can be replaced with new ones, and the brain naturally prunes away those connections that we no longer use or give attention to. Through receiving a positive suggestion in trance, then repeating and conditioning to it, it becomes the new association and behavior. We literally make new connections within the brain.
How many sessions will I need?
Within one to three sessions you will know how quickly you respond to hypnotherapy, and get a good idea how many more sessions you may need, if any. Each client is unique so we cannot give a definitive answer. Some clients have resolved their concerns in one session, while others have needed more.
Why do you use handwriting analysis?
Handwriting is a window into our behaviors, traits and tendencies as expressed through the ideomotor response of holding pen to paper. I use it because it gives me an incredible amount of information into the clients unique gifts and challenges. I also use it to determine a client’s suggestibility and how to phrase suggestions to the client so that they will be more readily accepted by the subconscious mind.
Why have my dreams changed since I started hypnotherapy?
Dreams are the proof that hypnosis is working for you! Our minds vent and release in dream time. Hypnosis is also a process of releasing unwanted emotions and feelings. While not everyone remembers their dreams, they often start to remember them after hypnosis.
